Twenty two niche car clubs from across the country have come together at the Bira Circuit near Pattaya for the Car Club Festival organised by the Super Club Thailand 2010. The idea being for the different clubs, all united by an overriding passion for the automobile, would mix together, showcase themselves and take part in activities, notably plenty of diversified on-track racing action. Chef Vichit Mukura, Thai Executive Chef at Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok, was recently featured on the television programme, “Yod Chef Thai,” which literally translates to “The Best Thai Chefs” on Channel 5. This programme brings forth the techniques of the Thai gastronomy. Having developed a passion for cooking at a young age, Chef Vichit learnt the basics of Thai cuisine from his mother. By the time he was sixteen, he began his apprenticeship at a hotel in Pattaya, and worked there for 8 years before starting his own restaurant. Now, he currently works for the renowned Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok. He is famous for his culinary skills, and has been responsible for preparing many meals for state-level functions. Teaching has also been a great passion of his, and he feels that it is important to share his knowledge of the traditions of Thai cuisine. The programme begins with Chef Vichit discussing the uniqueness of the techniques and Thai cuisine itself. This episode features two parts; in the first part, Chef Vichit reveals his recipe for “Moo Krob Pad Prig Khing” (Stir-fry Crispy Pork with Chili), demonstrating each and every step to produce this appetizing dish that exemplifies what Thai cuisine is — a unique balanced combination of different flavor and textures.
